Google's Nearby Share feature allows for quick and easy file transfers between Android and other devices, with recent support added for Windows. However, some lesser-known uses of the feature, such as sharing entire folders, have gained attention.
Normally, Nearby Share enables users to send files by selecting the file and the target device. Multiple files can also be shared simultaneously through supported apps. However, it's also possible to send full system folders from Android to other devices.
This folder-sharing capability has been available since Nearby Share's beta app launched on Windows in March. Recently, Mishaal Rahman highlighted this feature on Twitter, bringing it to the forefront of interest.

On Android, this functionality is limited to the Files by Google app. In contrast, Samsung's files app doesn't maintain the folder structure, only sending all contents without the original folder layout. When sharing a folder from one Android device to another, the Nearby Share prompt may indicate that multiple files are being received. However, the Files by Google app displays the correct folder structure for the shared files. When you share a folder with a Windows machine, it appears in File Explorer as a regular folder. Similarly, you can share folders from Windows to Android, and the process remains consistent. This bi-directional folder-sharing functionality provides significant utility, making file management between Android and Windows devices seamless.Neat: You can send an entire folder from your Android device to other Android devices, Chromebooks, or Windows PCs from the Files by Google app!
