Here Are Some Tips On Protecting Your CPU's From Catching Fire

There have recently been a number of reports of the CPU burning up. Although AMD hasn't commented, it's likely that a fresh BIOS update will be sufficient to protect your equipment. The most recent AMD 3D V-Cache processors are true beasts, however it seems that this capability comes at a steep cost for certain people. Reddit users have been reporting problems with the CPUs catching fire and destroying the AM5 motherboards as well. The motherboard has a burn mark, and the CPU has a noticeable bulge. Both parts are no longer functional. "I arrived home to find my system running at full speed with a QCode of 00. Reset BIOS, fiddled with RAM, and took it apart to discover that the 7800X3D had protruded and taken the socket with it, according to the user. The customer went into more detail in a comment and claimed that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has been running continuously since the purchase, but it only indicates that it had been on for a short period of time considering that the CPU was purchased on April 16. It didn't have any problems with temperatures or anything like that before that. Only Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) may be used to overclock Ryzen 3D V-Cache CPUs from the most recent generation, and this CPU wasn't overclocked either; only the RAM was through the EXPO 1 profile. There were other unfortunate Zen 4 X3D CPU owners besides Speedrookie. Another user, who had not overclocked anything, also experienced problems with their Ryzen 9 7950X3D burning up. Not just the 3D V-Cache chips appear to be having some difficulty in this situation; in response to the original article, dStruct714 stated that their Ryzen 9 7950X failed while the PC was idle and only the browser was open. The employment of an Asus motherboard in two of these situations appears to be a recurrent theme. "Recently, there have been reports of the 7000X3D series CPUs being damaged, which may have been caused by abnormal voltage issues," the MSI spokesperson stated. The Ryzen 7000X3D cannot be manually adjusted for voltage or clock, according to MSI. New limitations have now been applied by MSI to both the MSI Center and the AM5 BIOS. "As of right moment, the BIOS only accepts negative offset voltage settings, which only lower CPU voltage. The CPU won't be harmed by over-voltage because MSI Center forbids any direct voltage and frequency alterations, according to MSI. MSI has also incorporated a new Enhanced Mode Boost to the BIOS that automatically optimizes the PBO to provide Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs a little bit more performance. At this point, it is preferable to be safe than sorry if you own a Ryzen CPU, particularly a Ryzen 7000X3D processor. If a BIOS update was made available to you, install it; if not, wait; Asus and MSI have already released upgrades, and other manufacturers are probably going to do the same.
